We are excited to share that our project, Co-Learn Code and Mind: Empowering Future Innovators through Youth Participatory Inquiry, Social and Emotional Learning, and Intergenerational Mentoring, has received a $19,700 award from the University of Maryland’s Do Good Campus Fund.

Co-Learn Code and Mind is a yearlong after-school partnership between the University of Maryland and Montgomery County Public Schools that uses robotics as a platform for hands-on learning, youth participatory inquiry, and social and emotional learning (SEL). Through collaborative activities and mentoring relationships, the program supports middle school students’ confidence, communication, problem-solving skills, and sense of belonging.

The funding will support the program’s expansion into additional MCPS middle schools and help participating schools build sustainable pathways for long-term implementation. The initiative also brings together UMD students, high school mentors, educators, families, and senior volunteers in a collaborative intergenerational learning community.

We are grateful to the Do Good Institute and the Do Good Campus Fund for supporting community-engaged and equity-focused educational innovation.
